HBO's "The Pacific"

HBO's The Pacific tracks the intertwined real-life journeys of three U.S. Marines – Robert Leckie (James Badge Dale), Eugene Sledge (Joe Mazzello) and John Basilone (Jon Seda) – across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World War II.  The miniseries follows these men and their fellow Marines from their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu, across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and through the horror of  Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day.

Navy TV has obtained some rarely-seen archival footage from Periscope Films that highlights the Navy's contributions to the Pacific campaign of World War II.  Each week during the 10-part series that airs on HBO March 14-May 3, 2010, Navy TV will air a new film.  In addition, the Navy Memorial has created an online destination that assembles a variety of content about the Pacific campaign, including Navy Log profiles of some of the key characters of The Pacific, Ships' Tributes to ships lost during the Pacific campaign and a desktop application where visitors with a web camera on their computers can record a video mesage and email it to a Sailor or veteran.  HBO will post a montage of these video tributes on the HBO web site .
