USS Oriskany (CV-34)The USS Oriskany, nicknamed the “Mighty O”, was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers that was completed during or shortly after World War II. After retirement, on May 17, 2006, the Oriskany was successfully reefed about 24 miles south of Pensacola, Florida. At 911 feet in length, the USS Oriskany became the world’s largest artificial reef.
